New features for iPhone 3G OS 4.0, but update only available for iPhone 3G and 3GS model

Posted by totalconverter on Saturday, 23 January, 2010

Apple’s upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 will be available for upgrade only on its 3G and 3GS models, officially phasing out 2G rapidly.
Here we go with the first Apple iPhone model out on the street. Since the launch of the original iPhone in the summer of 2007, Apple has made major OS upgrades available to the oldest model. Not anymore. Apple’s upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 will be available for upgrade only on its 3G and 3GS models, officially phasing out 2G rapidly.
As more developers introduce 4.0 active features only, you will see users forced to upgrade to one of the new models if they want to update their apps accordingly. This also suggests the 4.0 version will have features that will seriously take advantage of the new OS 4.0 to make the hardware from three years ago completely useless. Logical enough.

Rumors also suggest after the OS 4.0 upgrade, 3G and 3GS will act even more like full-fledged computers. To quote the BGR source, ” [it will] put them [3G and 3GS] ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers.” That means Apple could potentially be opening up the platform to allow developers to take advantage of the entire system and not be limited by Apple in any form.

Our iPhone software will be also updated. The iPhone Converter software which includes DVD to iPhone Converter and iPhone Video Converter tools may be updated later to respond to the update of iPhone. The current version of our iPhone Converters support iPhone oldest version, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS very well. It’s a powerful and professional iPhone movie converter tool to help you convert DVD movies to iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS with high speed and amazing quality. Later in this year, we will start to develop the new version for Apple iPhone 3G OS 4.0. It will deserve your attention.

Trillian comes to iPhone

Posted by totalconverter on Friday, 20 November, 2009

Now, Trillian IM is available to iPhone and iPod Touch users through Apple’s App Store. The application costs $4.99.

Cerulean Studios, the company that created Trillian, said that Trillian for iPhone sports several features users will already find on the company’s desktop software. The app displays contacts, grouped and sorted by their respective categories. Users can also view multiple chat windows in a tabbed display. Thanks to updates Apple has made to the iPhone and iPod Touch, Trillian for iPhone also supports copy and paste. As with Trillian for the desktop, users can set their status, choose an avatar, and set up different status messages.

Because the app is always connected to Cerulean Studios’ Astra server, users can synchronize content across multiple IM clients. In other words, any changes made on the iPhone version of the app will immediately be reflected on the company’s Windows client and the user’s Astra profile. Any contacts users add will also be synchronized with their other clients.

According to Cerulean Studios, all chats are maintained on the server, so they are kept in case of a lost connection. The app will also alert users when they receive an instant message, regardless of whether Trillian for iPhone is open or not. When an IM is received, users will see a dialog box, hear the Trillian IM-notification sound, and be able to start Trillian and reply to the person.

Apple May Update iPod touch in December

Posted by totalconverter on Tuesday, 10 November, 2009

Apple’s iPod touch may be in store for a surprise update in December. An anonymous source claimed that a product refresh is planned before the end of the year, but couldn’t offer specific details, according to iPhone Alley.

Phil Schiller, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, previously stated that the company’s holiday product lineup is set, implying that there won’t be any new product announcements in 2009. His word choice, however, was vague enough for some to suggest that while the lineup is set, not everything has been introduced.

The current iPod touch is available in 8GB, 32GB and 64GB models with the same multi-touch display used on the iPhone. It includes built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, Nike + iPod support, and microphone support.

The iPod touch doesn’t include a built-in camera like the iPhone 3GS and iPod nano, but the rumor mill thinks that’s a feature the touch will get soon.

Apple rumors are just that, so what the next iPod touch update will include — and when it will happen — is still up in the air.

App Store Breaks 100,000 Mark for iPhone, iPod touch Offerings

Posted by totalconverter on Thursday, 5 November, 2009

Apple reported Wednesday that the App Store has crossed the 100,000 mark for apps available to iPhone and iPod touch owners. The milestone comes less than two months after the Cupertino, Calif. company said users downloaded more than 2 billion apps.

In September, the App Store reached 85,000 available applications.

The App Store “is clearly a major differentiator for millions of iPhone and iPod touch customers around the world,” said Philip Schiller, Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. The App Store is available in 77 countries with apps covering 20 categories from games, business and news to sports, health and travel.

Apple also introduced a number of new features, such as App Store Essentials, sub categories and expanded customer reviews. In September, the company also unveiled its Genius recommendation ability, providing customers with an easier way to navigate the App Store’s many options. iTunes 9 was also improved, providing a better way to manage your application library. New keywords were added to permit better searches of the ever-expanding list of available apps.

Recently, Apple enhanced its App Purchase feature, allowing developers to offer in-app upgrades within free apps.

By comparison to the App Store’s 100,000 available applications, other companies offer distant competition. RIM’s BlackBerry App World holds 3,040 apps, while Nokia’s Ovi Store contains 660 apps, according to Yappler. Although the Windows platform has been around for years, the software giant’s Windows Mobile Marketplace has just 246 applications available. Palm has just 100 applications.

Apple’s reign may be nearing an end, however. Gartner announced Tuesday it expects by 2012 Google’s Android platform to wrest from Apple the No. 2 smartphone maker position behind Nokia’s Symbian. Apple and RIM will compete for third place, the research firm expects.
